A historic moment in time: Congress closer than ever to making health care reform a reality (VIDEO)
Americans have waited for meaningful health care reform for more than six decades. Today, House Democrats are closer than ever to reforming our nation’s broken health insurance system with a plan that puts Americans back in control of their health care choices, holds insurance companies accountable, and makes coverage more affordable.
“At this moment in time, we have the opportunity, on behalf of the American people, to accomplish what Roosevelt, Nixon, Truman and Clinton wanted to do,” Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson noted.
“We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed. Among these… The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health.”
– President Roosevelt (January 11, 1944)
“I want America to have the finest health care in the world, and I want every American to be able to have that care when he needs it.”
– President Nixon (February 18, 1971)
"I am announcing the formation of the President's Task Force on National Health Care Reform, chaired by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.”
– President Clinton (January 25, 1993)
