Americans deserve an explanation from the GOP about their plan to end Medicare

It’s time for Washington Republicans to explain to American families how their plan to give billions in new tax cuts to the wealthiest in the nation while ending Medicare and ignoring the need for jobs is going to help restore our economy. At a time when American middle class families need help, House Republicans are pursuing a hardnosed ideological agenda instead of coming to the table to try to get our nation back to work. They want us to believe that we have to destroy Medicare to save it while choosing to protect billions in tax payer subsidies for oil companies that are enjoying record profits and for businesses that ship our jobs overseas. At the same time, the Republicans have completely ignored the nation’s top priority: Jobs. After nearly six months in power, they have not produced a single job-creation bill. And now, some Republican leaders are revisiting their tired old plan to privatize Social Security, which will jeopardize the economic security of America’s seniors, even though Americans have already overwhelmingly rejected it.

But pointing fingers will not help create new jobs!  We face immense economic problems that will take years to solve.  It’s time to stop the partisan games, come together to reduce the deficit, ask the wealthiest to pay their fair share of taxes, and invest smartly to support education, innovation and new American industries. That’s why Democrats introduced an entire package of legislation aimed at preserving and creating new, good-paying jobs through our Make it in America plan. Together we can create jobs, reduce the deficit, strengthen the middle class and grow the economy for all Americans.
