Democrats stand up to unreasonable health care industry rate hikes

The Energy and Commerce Committee held health insurance company executives’ feet to the fire this week for trying to raise premiums on consumers by a whopping 39%. That’s right, California’s largest insurer wants to raise premiums by more than 1/3 – proof that we need health insurance reform now to reign in insurance abuses.

For more than 60 years health insurance companies have been exempted from anti-trust laws, resulting in fewer quality coverage choices for American consumers. That’s why the House voted yesterday to require that health insurance companies compete fairly and honestly, like other American companies.
