House Democrats are Focused on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs
November 17, 2009
Jobs are the number one priority for House Democrats and momentum is building amongst our colleagues towards job creation legislation. Last night, the House Democratic Caucus met with experts and economists to talk about the best ways to grow jobs and get our economy back on track. Caucus members listened to featured guests Richard L. Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO, Simon Rosenberg, President of NDN, and Robert Kuttner, Co-founder and Co-editor of The American Prospect, share their ideas for how to get our economy moving again. House Democrats listened to the experts, and we have listened to the American people, and although there are many ideas and legislative proposals, one thing is certain – a jobless recovery is not acceptable. We will grow our economy in a way that puts Main Street – not Wall Street – first. We will be fiscally responsible and build a foundation for long term economic growth.

Although much remains to be done, the House Democrats have already done a lot to create jobs and help out of work Americans weather this rough economy, including:
- Enacting the Recovery Act – which is on track to create or save 3.5 million jobs.
- Extending Unemployment Insurance – one of the fastest ways to get money directly into local economies
- Extending the homebuyers’ tax credit – to help families purchase homes and strengthen the housing market.
- Supporting our small businesses – the engine of job creation in this country.
House Democrats are proud of what we have already achieved, but until more Americans are back at work, we will remain focused on jobs, jobs, jobs.
