Manufacturing Jobs of the Future – Let’s Make it in America
Today, the House passed three bills to strengthen American manufacturing, put Americans back to work, and grow our economy. These bills join the SECTORS Act, which retrains American workers for good-paying jobs, as part of our recently announced Make it in America manufacturing strategy. Rebuilding our manufacturing industry is critical to our economic recovery because each new job in manufacturing creates four additional jobs throughout the economy.
The three manufacturing bills passed today are:
The National Manufacturing Strategy Act
(Introduced by Rep. Daniel Lipinski)This bill establishes a Manufacturing Strategy Board to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the manufacturing sector – touching on issues like trade and financing – and produce short- and long-term goals and recommendations for industry and policy makers.
Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Act
(Introduced by Rep. Doris Matsui)
This bill promotes policies that will, encourage sustainable investments in domestic clean energy technology, and assist clean technology firms with finding export markets. It also strengthens America’s domestic clean tech manufacturing industry by reducing production costs and encouraging innovation, investment, and productivity in the American clean energy technology industry.End the Trade Deficit Act
(Introduced by Rep. Peter DeFazio)This bill establishes a trade policy plan to eliminate the U.S. merchandise trade deficit and develop a competitive trade policy for the 21st century.
We cannot afford to return to the failed policies of the past. Unfortunately, Republicans in Congress are fighting to preserve tax loopholes that encourage companies to ship American jobs overseas and extend the Bush policies that created the worst jobs record since the Great Depression. Their policies cost us 4.5 million manufacturing jobs and trillions of dollars in wealth. Democrats Make it in America strategy will ensure America remains the world leader in technology and innovation and helps move us forward – never back..
