Towns Sends Formal Invite to Toyota Chief to Testify on Safety Recalls

Today, Chairman Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY) formally invited Mr. Akio Toyoda, President of  the Toyota Motor Corporation to testify before the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on the recall of millions of his companies cars over serious safety issues.

Chairman Towns’, who has been investigating the reports of Toyota’s malfunctioning gas pedals, will take a hard look at response to the recall and  gain a better understanding of the sudden acceleration problem in Toyota vehicles.

In his letter to Mr. Toyoda, Chairman Towns wrote, “In short, the public is unsure as to what exactly the problem is, whether it is safe to drive their cars, or what they should do about it.  To help clarify this situation, I am inviting you to testify…”
