Chairman Crowley on Retirement of Congressman Luis V. Gutiérrez

November 28, 2017

(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after Congressman Luis V. Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) announced his intention to retire at the end of this Congress:

“Luis Gutiérrez has been an incredible friend, a fierce advocate, and a passionate voice for his constituents. I am so proud to have served alongside Luis. His activism and energy will be missed.

“I hope that we send-off Luis with the victory he has worked so hard to secure – passage of the DREAM Act. It’s not only what Luis deserves, but it’s the right thing for Congress to do.

“I know Luis will remain a champion whether he’s here in Congress or not. I also look forward to keeping up our work together to help rise up all Americans. And, I wish him and Soraida a peaceful and well-deserved retirement.”
