Chairman Crowley Statement on Congressman Gene Green’s Retirement

November 14, 2017

(Washington, D.C) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement on Congressman Gene Green’s decision to retire at the end of this Congress:

“I am saddened to learn that my colleague and dear friend Gene Green will retire at the end of his term. Both Congress and the people of Texas will lose an important voice that has been essential to Democrats’ unwavering belief that all Americans be treated with fairness and equality under the law.

“During his twenty-four-year tenure, Gene has been a tireless advocate for Texans and the people of Houston. As the ranking member for the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, Gene was critical in our fight to protect the Affordable Care Act and to ensure that the people of Houston received the support and assistance needed after Hurricane Harvey decimated the region.

“I want to thank his wife, Helen, for sharing Gene with us all these years. We will sorely miss Gene, but wish him and Helen well in their next chapter.”
