Chairman Crowley Statement on Democratic Tax Principles

October 25, 2017

(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement on the tax principles released today by Ways and Means Committee Democrats and Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-Mass.):

“America’s working families and the middle class are desperate for tax relief. For far too long, families have felt as if the economy was stacked against them – designed to bolster corporate special interests while everyday Americans are left behind. The tax principles released today by Congressman Neal would help reverse that course by bringing much-needed relief to middle class families by helping them buy a home, pay for college, or save for retirement.

“Democrats are fighting for a progressive tax reform plan that protects Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and puts hardworking, middle-class families first. I’m proud to support these principles and I urge my Republican colleagues to reconsider their partisan go-it-alone approach and instead work with Democrats to create a lasting tax reform plan. American families are depending on it.”
