Chairman Crowley Statement on Dutch Election Results

March 16, 2017

(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after voters in the Netherlands broadly rejected a nationalist ticket to elect Conservative Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

“It is a reassuring sign to see voters in the Netherlands reject a nationalist movement and its leader, Geert Wilders, during their elections this week. Demonizing minorities, as Mr. Wilders has proposed, is the wrong direction for Europe and its allies. I want to extend my congratulations to the Dutch people on their successful election, and am eager to find ways for our two countries to strengthen our lasting friendship.”
