Chairman Xavier Becerra on Growing Congressional Support for Immigration Reform

April 28, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), Chair of the House Republican Conference, expressed her support for immigration reform with a path to citizenship:

“It’s important to recognize the statement of House GOP Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers joining those in support of a vote in the House to fix our broken immigration system. The more time Members of Congress spend with their constituents, the more they come to realize how truly important immigration reform is to our families, our national security and our economy.

“The time to vote is now. For over 300 days, Americans have waited for the House to catch up to the Senate to get the job done. Every week that Speaker John Boehner delays a legislative fix to our broken immigration system, thousands of families are torn apart, our borders remain less secure, and our economy suffers.

“I hope Chair McMorris Rodgers’ words will resonate with her fellow Republican leaders in the House. It’s time to stop worrying about party politics and start doing what’s best for our country.”
