Chairman Xavier Becerra on Health Care Enrollment Report

January 14, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C – Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a report providing a first look at the demographics of the more than 2 million Americans who have selected plans through the state and federal health insurance marketplaces:

“Americans of all ages and from all walks of life are gaining access to dependable health security thanks to the Affordable Care Act. In fact, of the 2.2 million Americans who enrolled in private health insurance plans using the federal or state marketplaces, thirty percent are under the age of 35. And let us not forget that those who have selected plans through the marketplaces are only a fraction of the over 9 million people who are gaining peace of mind through their new health care coverage. In the new year, Congress should find ways to strengthen our new health care law and provide more health security to more Americans.”
