Chairman Xavier Becerra On President Obama’s State Of The Union Address: Let’s Get To Work

January 29, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address:

“There’s much work to be done and no time to waste. As President Obama made clear tonight, this year must be a year of action to help create jobs, grow the middle class and strengthen the ladders of opportunity for all aspiring Americans. We have a real opportunity this year to move past the game of shutdown politics to the serious business of rewarding work and ensuring economic security. We can guarantee equal pay for equal work, raise the minimum wage to a living wage, renew long-term unemployment insurance for Americans who are out of work through no fault of their own, and finally fix our badly broken immigration system. There’s no reason we can’t tackle these challenges together. Let’s get to work.”
