Chairman Xavier Becerra: “Reviving Failed Policies Of The Past Won’t Help Grow Our Economy Today”

May 9, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after voting against legislation (H.R 4438) that would dole out $156 billion in unpaid-for tax breaks to corporations:

“Reviving failed policies of the past won’t help grow our economy today. Instead of working with House Democrats on a jobs agenda to put more Americans to work and help others get back on the job, House Republicans are once again doling out billions in unpaid-for, budget-busting tax breaks.

“House Republicans are proving to be nothing more than fiscal pretenders. Today’s vote and five other Republican bills to extend tax breaks without paying for them will increase the deficit by over $300 billion and could lead to Republican cuts to Medicare, health research and school funding. What taxpayer would trust that budget math?

“It’s time to get to work on the important issues facing this country, so that we can build an economy that works for all Americans, not just the wealthiest few.”
