Chairman Xavier Becerra Signs Onto Amicus Brief In Support of Americans’ Voting Rights
LOS ANGELES — Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after signing onto an amicus brief in Kris W. Kobach v. U.S. Election Assistance Committee and Project Vote, which will soon be heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, opposing overly-restrictive voter registration requirements imposed by Arizona and Kansas that prevent Americans from exercising their right to vote:
“The right to vote is a sacred franchise in America. I applaud Ranking member Robert Brady for taking the lead in our fight to protect Americans from discrimination at the ballot box. I’m confident the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit will uphold and protect every eligible American’s Constitutional right to vote.”
The amicus brief was submitted by the House Administration Ranking Member Robert A. Brady (D-PA) along with Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn, Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia Fudge, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Rubén Hinojosa and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Chair Judy Chu.
