Chairman Xavier Becerra Votes To Reopen Our Government, Avert A Default Disaster & Put Americans Back To Work

October 16, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after voting to reopen our government, avert a default disaster, and put Americans back to work:

“After 16 days filled with anxiety for American workers and uncertainty for our economy, Congress has averted a default disaster and finally voted to reopen the doors of government and let Americans return to work. Playing with the American people’s hard-earned money is no way to govern; they expect more from their elected Representatives. They expect Congress to fulfill its most basic duties of paying our bills on time and delivering on the services that taxpayers have paid for. Let’s hope our Republican colleagues have at long last learned that we cannot hand over the keys of our government to one faction of one party. It’s time for Congress to move on from these dangerous games and get back to the business of growing our economy and strengthening the middle class.”
