Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after voting against the “More Work, Less Pay” Act (H.R. 140):

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House Democratic Caucus re-launched its Seniors Task Force, an initiative to raise awareness on issues that matter most to America’s seniors and work to protect and strengthen vital services that our aging population has earned through a lifetime of hard work. The Seniors Task Force, co-chaired by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), announced it will host its first meeting of the 113th Congress this week. WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after gun violence prevention legislation which would expand background checks, failed by a vote of 54 to 46 in the United States Senate:

“When 90 percent of the American public supports universal background checks, it’s time to act. What are we waiting for? Unfortunately, a minority of Senators blocked the bipartisan measure using the procedural filibuster showing how out of touch and extreme they are.
