Caucus to Hold Informational Discussion on Climate Change Policy Today

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, will host a meeting of the Caucus today that will be an in-depth discussion and consideration of climate change policy.  
 
Congressman Larson said, “Climate change is one of the most important issues of our time.  We must address it immediately.  To do so, the members of this Caucus must be educated about the policy options that are available and knowledgeable about the results of the path we choose.”
 
The meeting will feature the following guests:
 
·        Dr. Michael Oppenheimer, Princeton University – Dr. Oppenheimer is the Albert G. Milbank Professor of Geosciences and International Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School and the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University.  Oppenheimer is a long-time participant in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. 
 
·        Eileen Claussen, Pew Center on Global Climate Change – Ms. Claussen is the President of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change and Strategies for the Global Environment.  She is also the former Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental Scientific Affairs.
 
·        Dr. Robert Shapiro, NDN Globalization Initiative – Dr. Shapiro is the director of NDN’s Globalization Initiative.  He was Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs.  He is the author of a paper entitled, Addressing Climate Change without Impairing the U.S. Economy: The Economics and Environmental Science of Combining a Carbon-Based Tax and Tax Relief.
 
·        Fred Krupp, Environmental Defense Fund – In his 24 years as head of Environmental Defense Fund, Fred Krupp has overseen the growth of EDF from a small nonprofit into a worldwide leader in the environmental movement. Krupp is widely recognized as the foremost champion of harnessing market forces for environmental ends.  Today, his approach has become a leading model for solving the problem of global warming.
 
·        Jeff Sterba, PNM Resources – Mr. Sterba is the Chairman, President and CEO of PNM Resources, an energy holding company based in New Mexico.  PNM Resources is one of 46 companies involved in 3C -- a global consortium of companies working to help drive initiatives that would reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to acceptable levels as rapidly as possible. 
 
·        Kimberly Corley, Shell Oil – Ms. Korley is the U.S. Senior Advisory of CO2 and Environmental Affairs for Shell Oil Company.  She is the central focal point for development and management of the company’s US plans, policies and activities regarding CO2, and as coordinator of cross-border issues and activities with Canada.
