Larson, Becerra Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Caucus Chairman John B. Larson (CT-01) and Vice Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA – 31) issued the following joint statement in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month:
“During Hispanic Heritage Month, let us reflect on the long and proud history of Latinos in the United States. From the founding of our nation’s oldest settlements to the highest levels of government and commerce today, Latinos have played an integral role in shaping the history and culture of the United States from its inception to this very day.
“Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the contributions of the Latino men and women to the greatness of our nation and the richness of our culture. It is also a time to reflect on the struggles and challenges of the Latino community. Many of those challenges—from economic insecurity, to health care access, to struggling schools—are shared by Americans of every background. The true test of our national character is how we come together to solve our problems as one nation, regardless of race or ethnicity.
“During this Hispanic Heritage Month, we come together to reflect on our shared history, remember the challenges we have faced together, and look forward to a future where the American Dream remains accessible to all who are willing to work hard, play by the rules and contribute to our nation.”
