Larson Commends Veterans Health Care Budget Reform Act

Washington, DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act. This legislation will allow the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to approve veterans’ medical care funding one year in advance to better anticipate, and meet the demand for, veterans’ health care services.

Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said:

“The legislation the House approved today treats our veterans’ health care benefits with the kind of honor and distinction with which they serve our country.  We are putting funding the health needs of our veterans beyond the reach of politics as usual, giving our veterans the peace of mind and stability of knowing their benefits are protected and planned for.  By approving funding for veterans’ health care a year in advance, we are making it easier for veterans to access their health care and easier for the VA to address the unique medical needs of our veterans. This legislation has rightly been one of the top priorities for veterans groups across this country and I am proud that this Congress has once again stood up for our returning men and women in uniform.

“The bill we passed today builds on a significant record of accomplishment for veterans and troops over the last two and a half years– including the New GI Bill, progress in improving veterans’ hospitals and facilities, expanding economic opportunities for returning soldiers, and improving care for those with PTSD.”
