Larson Statement On Hispanic Heritage Month
WASHINGTON – House Democratic Caucus Chairman John B. Larson (CT) released the following statement today on Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th to October 15th, 2011:
“Beginning today, we honor National Hispanic Heritage Month, and celebrate the innumerable contributions the Hispanic community has made in the United States throughout our history.
“Our communities, businesses, military, education, science and every branch of the arts have all benefited from the talent, ingenuity, and hard work of Hispanic Americans, and during Hispanic Heritage Month, we pay special tribute to them.
“Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, ‘I do not look upon these United States as a finished product. We are still in the making.’ Every growing community, and every additional year of collaborative work between Americans of different backgrounds builds on the constantly evolving dream that is the United States. The contributions and sacrifices of Hispanics in America have made their role in that ongoing effort invaluable and undeniable.
“We’re proud and grateful to be able to honor Hispanic Americans, and together, we look forward to the continued enrichment of our national community as people from around the world work toward achieving the American Dream, and making our country a ‘finished product’ that we can all be proud of.”
