Larson Statement on Passage of Veterans Portion of President's Job Act
WASHINGTON – House Democratic Caucus Chairman John B. Larson (CT), who introduced President Obama’s American Jobs Act, released the following statement tonight on House passage of the “VOW to Hire Heroes Act”, the veterans portion of the AJA:
“Our men and women in uniform live by the expression ‘leave no soldier behind’, and so should Congress. We’ve asked a lot of our veterans and when they return home we must ensure that they’re taken care of; which includes making sure they can find a good paying job as they transition to civilian life.
“Helping them is not only the honorable thing to do, it’s also the smart economic thing to do. Which is why President Obama included measures to help get our veterans back to work in his jobs package. And why Democrats in Congress pressed so hard to see these measures passed.
“Today’s vote is a win for our veterans. It’s a win for our economy. And it shows that Democrats and Republicans can work together to get something done. Now we need to do something to help get the millions of other Americans caught in what one of my constituents called this “dark abyss of uncertainty” back to work.
