Larson Statement On Senate GOP Unanimous Rejection Of The Rebuild American Jobs Act
Washington - House Democratic Caucus Chairman John B. Larson (CT), the House sponsor of the American Jobs Act, released the following statement after Senate Republicans unanimously blocked the Senate from moving forward with the infrastructure investment portion of the bill today to help put America back to work:
“Once again, a majority of the Senate has spoken, yet no action will be taken to put America back to work because of a broken system.
“The nation has made it clear; they want action on jobs. Today, 51 Senators supported putting Americans back to work rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, and modernizing our air traffic control system. And yet, because of an arcane rule, that bill can’t even be considered on the Senate Floor, because Senate Republicans unanimously said they’d rather see the economy suffer than ask millionaires to pay their fair share.
“That’s part of what’s wrong in Congress and why people will continue to take to the streets over Congress's inability to meet their needs. They simply can’t understand why the will of the people cannot be served.
"President Obama is right. We can’t wait. As one woman in my district put it, millions of Americans are living ‘in the dark abyss of uncertainty.’ They deserve better from this Congress!”
