“As we continue to recover from the worst economic crisis since the great depression, today’s jobs numbers are encouraging news. Yet the real story is that more work needs to be done – something that Republicans in Congress refuse to do.

WASHINGTON – On MSNBC yesterday, House Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson (CT) told Reverend Al Sharpton that when it comes to helping working class Americans, the Republican controlled Congress is frozen in the ice of their indifference.
Today, the House passed three bills to strengthen American manufacturing, put Americans back to work, and grow our economy. These bills join the SECTORS Act, which retrains American workers for good-paying jobs, as part of our recently announced Make it in America manufacturing strategy. Rebuilding our manufacturing industry is critical to our economic recovery because each new job in manufacturing creates four additional jobs throughout the economy.
A report out today by Mark Zandi, an economic advisor to John McCain and Chief Economist at Moodys.com, and Mark Blinder, an economics professor at Princeton and former Vice Chair of the Fed, found that “the U.S. economy has made enormous progress since the dark days of early 2009.”
Where do you turn when your health insurance company denies you coverage for care you really need? Until now millions of Americans had nowhere to go for help or would get caught up in a bureaucratic mess of an appeals process when they were turned down by their insurance company. But, today, the Obama Administration announced new regulations as part of our historic health care reform that would give many Americans access to a fair and honest appeals process for the first time.
After weeks of Senate Republicans stalling and obstruction Senate Democrats overcame their fillibuster to provide unemployment benefits for families across America.
But, unemployment benefits don’t just help the unemployed, they are one of the best ways to give the whole economy a boost and create jobs.
Today, President Obama signed into law the Restoring American Financial Stability Act – the most important regulatory overhaul of our nation’s financial system since the reforms that led to 60 years of sustained growth after the Great Depression.
For eight years, Wall Street played Russian roulette with America’s future while Republicans in Congress and President Bush looked the other way. This law ends bailouts for big Wall Street banks and protects consumers and the financial system from the damaging practices that got us into this mess.
Democratic Members of Congress took to the floor of the House en masse today to voice their determination to strengthen and support Social Security in the face of repeated Republican attempts to undermine and dismantle the program. The Republican plan would jeopardize our nation’s fiscal stability by increasing federal borrowing by more than $1 trillion.
This weekend, Republicans admitted that their economic plan for the future is more of the same failed Bush-Republican policies that got us into this mess. Take a look:

WASHINGTON – House Democratic Caucus Chairman John Larson (CT), one of the leading advocates for comprehensive campaign finance reform in the House, released the following statement on the Supreme Court decision to affirm the Citizens United ruling:
