Cash for Clunkers

Democrats enacted the successful “Cash for Clunkers” program to support a new clean energy economy by providing consumers with up to $4,500 towards the purchase of new, more fuel-efficient vehicles when they trade in their old gas-guzzlers. This legislation is a common sense way to spur car sales at a time when auto companies and dealers are suffering while at the same time we provide a boost to our clean energy economy and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. (Signed into law)

As I’ve talked to car dealers in my district, they can't keep cars on the lots. They will be ordering new cars from manufacturers in my state and around the country, and suppliers who supply parts for those cars will be manufacturing more of them.
