Coast Guard Authorization Act
The Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2010 (H.R. 3619), introduced by Representative Jim Oberstar, would authorize $10 billion in fiscal year 2010 to the United States Coast Guard so that it may implement its mission responsibilities. The bill would improve marine safety, cruise vessel safety, and the Coast Guard’s management structure. The bill would also reform the Coast Guard’s acquisition process to ensure that it has the funds, resources, and personnel to carry out its missions. This bill would require the Coast Guard to conduct comprehensive testing and evaluation of all major assets to ensure that they meet the highest standards of quality and all contractual requirements; and it directs the Coast Guard to develop independent cost estimates for the service’s largest acquisitions.
