Data Accountability and Trust Act

The Data Accountability and Trust Act (H.R. 2221), introduced by Representative Bobby Rush, would help fight breaches in data security and help American consumers detect and prevent identity theft. The bill would require companies to implement reasonable and appropriate safeguards to secure personal information and to provide notice to individuals when such information is compromised. This is a crucial step in protecting American consumers in the face of their increasing inability to control how their private information is used in commerce.
