Statement from Chairman Aguilar on Hispanic Heritage Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar released the following statement on the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month:

“From our nation’s founding, to its present and into its bright future, Hispanic heritage is American heritage. This month, and always, the House Democratic Caucus comes together to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions and countless contributions of our Latino communities. Latinos have made an indelible mark on our nation in the fields of science, technology, business, politics, entertainment and beyond.

“In celebrating the past, we also acknowledge our ongoing work to make the American Dream a reality for everyone. Led by President Biden, House Democrats passed historic legislation to create good-paying jobs, expand access to affordable health coverage, bolster Latino-owned businesses, invest in education and more. We’ve achieved extraordinary economic progress and created over 13 million jobs, bringing the Latino unemployment rate to record lows. And we have long been committed to defending a woman’s fundamental right to choose and delivering immigration reform to reunite families and create a pathway to citizenship for our immigrant communities.

“This month also comes at a special moment in history. For the first time, more Latinos are serving in Congress than ever before. As House Democrats always say, our diversity is our strength and there is no better way to deliver for our country than having a government representative of its people. Shepherded by the leadership of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, House Democrats will continue to create a better future for Latinos across America.”
