Chairman Aguilar: Republicans continue to put Guns Over Kids
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar joined Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chair Mike Thompson, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, House Assistant Minority Leader Joe Neguse and others to mark the two-year anniversary of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and reaffirm House Democrats’ commitment to ending the gun violence epidemic.
CHAIRMAN AGUILAR: Thank you, Whip Clark, and thank you Representative Thompson on the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force for their amazing work. And to the advocates and friends who join us today, thank you, thank you for committing to this discussion, to this fight, to protect our kids and to protect our communities.
As the Whip mentioned, two years ago, Democrats and Republicans came together in the most significant piece of legislation that we have been able to accomplish in the last 30 years. We appreciate the work that was done, and we cannot stop until we do more. We will not stop until the gun violence epidemic ends and until we help save our communities.
We should be coming together as policymakers to ensure that this is bipartisan, just like that piece of legislation, but Republicans continue to put Guns Over Kids. They continue to turn a blind eye to the hundreds of families who have lost loved ones in senseless acts of violence. House Democrats will stand with those families, we grieve with them and we will continue to fight for them. So once again, we urge House Republicans to join us to protect our kids and their futures, and to come to the table to find a meaningful path forward to end gun violence once and for all.
