CHAIRMAN JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON THE ELEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
NEW YORK – On the eleventh anniversary of the Affordable Care Act being signed into law, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:
“Eleven years ago, the Affordable Care Act became the law of the land. Since then, millions of Americans gained coverage for the first time in their lives, health care costs went down for many and countless lives have been saved.
Republicans have attempted to strip away the protections enshrined in the Affordable Care Act for over a decade. Under the leadership of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Democrats have been relentless in our efforts to defend and strengthen this historic legislation because in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, no American should ever have to choose between putting food on the table or gaining access to lifesaving treatment.
President Biden’s American Rescue Plan is a historic and monumental step as it relates to expanding access and lowering the cost of health care. On average, premiums will decrease by $50 per person per month for enrollees on HealthCare.gov, four out of five will be able find a plan for $10 or less per month and millions of uninsured Americans will obtain access to coverage.
Access to quality, affordable health care remains the top priority of the American people and critical to our pathway out of this deadly pandemic. House Democrats have never lost sight of our pledge to deliver lower health care costs For The People and the American Rescue Plan represents another promise kept by the House Democratic Majority.
