Statement from Chairman Pete Aguilar on President Biden’s Executive Orders

SAN BERNARDINO, CA –  Today, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar released the following statement on President Biden’s executive orders to expand parole in place for undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens and ease the work visa process for U.S. college-educated immigrants, including DACA recipients:

“Today’s executive orders are a significant step forward in a balanced approach to reform our broken immigration system and secure our border. After taking decisive action to get our southern border under control, the President is now extending the promise of the American Dream to families across our country as we celebrate 12 years since the Obama-Biden Administration created the DACA program. I applaud President Biden for prioritizing protections for college graduates, including Dreamers, and undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens. Now, hundreds of thousands of our friends, family and neighbors are one step closer to starting on the path to citizenship in the country they’ve long called home.

“These historic actions underscore the urgent need for Congress to advance comprehensive immigration and border security legislation – a responsibility that House Republicans, at the behest of the former president, have walked away from time and again. Instead of offering solutions, those on the other side of the aisle have torpedoed bipartisan compromise legislation to help address our broken immigration system and continue to spew lies and threaten hardworking families across America. Make no mistake: Congressional Republicans are the only ones standing in the way of an orderly border and a humane immigration system.

“House Democrats continue to stand ready to build on President Biden’s track record and deliver relief for immigrant communities, expand legal pathways for those who want to work and contribute to their communities, address the root causes of migration and continue to ensure a safe and orderly border.”
