Statement From Chairman Pete Aguilar on President Biden’s Budget

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Pete Aguilar, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement on President Biden’s budget:

“Teachers and firefighters should not pay more in taxes than billionaires. The commitment we make to our seniors through Social Security and Medicare should be ironclad. Prescription drugs, health insurance and child care should be more affordable. We can reduce the deficit while still investing in the American economy and American workers. These are the values laid out in President Biden’s budget and House Democrats are committed to enacting these into law. We stand ready to work with anyone to put People Over Politics, but we need reasonable Republicans to come to the table.

“We learned yesterday that House Republican Leadership is in “no rush” to release their own budget. That’s because they know their plans are extreme and would jeopardize the hard-earned benefits of seniors, veterans and working families across the country. The leading voices of the Republican Party, including those to whom Speaker McCarthy owes his gavel, have stated over and over that they want to cut Social Security and Medicare. It’s time for House Republicans to come clean about their real plans for the budget. The American people deserve to know what they intend to do with their temporary majority.”
